The Dr. Karisa L. Ashley and Dr. Donald A. Werner Student Scholarship
Dr. Donald A. Werner was a professor of Business at Scottsdale Community College (SCC) for twenty-nine years from 1971 to 2001. During his tenure, he served as Chairperson of the Business Division and as the Director of Occupational Education. Dr. Werner also was an active participant on campus and in the community during the early years of SCC’s inception. His peers and the community at large have recognized his good work on behalf of SCC’s students. They were a driving motivator for him, and it is his desire to help them improve their lives that motivated him to create this scholarship.
Dr. Karisa L. Ashley was a professor at Scottsdale Community College from 1980 to 2005. In her years at Scottsdale Community College, she taught English Composition, Literature of the Southwest, Poetry Study, and Spanish Conversation classes, but her favorite teaching area was English as a Second Language. She directed and taught her beloved international and community students in this program until her retirement in 2005. Dr. Ashley and her husband, Dr. Donald Werner, now spend much of their time traveling to and visiting the home countries of her former incredible students who made each day of her career at Scottsdale Community College such a profound and meaningful experience. It is with these students in mind, that Dr. Ashley created this scholarship to help those most in need to achieve a greater education.
