Garret Schwartz Scholarship
The donor became associated with Phoenix College in 2017 when he donated a Roy Lichtenstein lithograph (valued at $40,000) to the College in honor of his friend Garret Schwartz. The lithograph hangs in the PC administration building. Eventually, the donor indicated he would like to establish a scholarship at PC in Garret’s name. He committed $100,000 over 3-5 years. The Garret Schwartz Scholarship was established in 2019 in honor of Garret completing his Bachelor’s degree at Arizona State University – after attending Phoenix College.
Garret Schwartz BIO
Garret grew up in rural Arizona, worked from an early age, came to Phoenix for opportunity and started attending PC in spring of 2015. Garret was introduced to the donor through a mutual friend, and he became an important mentor as Garret attended Phoenix College; growing academically and personally. Garret became the first in his family to earn a Bachelor’s degree, doing so with distinction from Arizona State University in 2019. While in school, he worked full-time as a legislative assistant and then a research staffer at the Arizona Senate and built a business, which he plans to make his priority and full-time job. Garret structured the scholarship to serve people from lower socio-economic backgrounds who are passionate about STEM fields and want to pursue work in an essential STEM career.
